Göreme, Turkey

Göreme Turkey

Göreme is a town in the Cappadocia region of Turkey. It is the gateway to Göreme National Park, a vast UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with well‑preserved monastic caves and churches carved into the volcanic rocks and cliffs of the surrounding valleys. Visitors come to Göreme for its extraordinary landscapes, its rock‑cut churches with painted frescoes, its underground cities with labyrinths of rooms and corridors, and its beautiful hiking valleys. The town itself is literally carved into the volcanic rock, and it is also an excellent place to sample Turkish cuisine and local wines. Göreme is widely considered the highlight of Cappadocia: a place of cave dwellings and hundreds of rarely seen churches, dramatic gorges to explore, and some of the most vivid pastoral scenery in all of Turkey.
